Terry Owens-Alvarez is the principal designer of THID and a NCIDQ-certified professional with over 28 years of experience. A graduate of the CIDA-accredited program at the University of Alabama, Terry’s portfolio spans residential, commercial, healthcare, and hospitality projects. Based in Truckee, California, since 1993, her work is deeply informed by the rugged beauty and active lifestyle of the Sierras.

Terry’s design philosophy is an extension of her life outdoors—whether she’s biking, skiing, or traveling the globe. This global perspective led her to expand her practice to Chile, where she spends part of the year. In a unique fusion of her passions, Terry is now a certified Sommelier, bringing a sophisticated understanding of viticulture and hospitality to her work.

At Bio Bio Patagonia, Terry serves as a camp host, yoga leader, and resident sommelier, curating wine experiences that complement the breathtaking environment. This dual expertise allows her to design spaces that aren’t just visually stunning, but are perfectly "paired" with the lifestyle and entertaining needs of her clients.

From ground-up builds at Martis Camp to bespoke fireplace designs in Tahoe Donner, Terry provides every project with personal attention, ensuring a seamless blend of luxury, function, and culture.
